QUT STEM FOR SCHOOLS – Code a Solar System and Rocket Science

Chisholm Catholic College is committed to inspiring our next generation of STEM leaders by embedding STEM learning through our FASTRACK academic talent development and gifted and talented program.  One of such opportunities to learn beyond the classroom is through fully funded on-campus STEM for Schools workshops held at the Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point Campus.  Recently, we sent 23 Year 7/8 students  and 6 Year 10 students in QUT to code a Solar System and be enthused by Rocket Science.

On the 12-14 October, 2018 we celebrated the 30th year that Optiminds had been in existence.  In addition to this, our school represented the Brisbane South region during the State and Australian Finals Event held at The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus.  All 108 teams and approximately 800 students plus teachers and facilitators were accommodated at the Charlotte Towers in Brisbane.

We congratulate The Paragon team - Cameron West, Alex Watson, James Pereira and Oscar Hubbard, for being ‘unashamedly excellent’ in making our school and our region proud of their efforts during the spontaneous, long term challenges and Youth Forum.  Ms Manansala facilitated and accompanied the team from 12-14th of October, 2018.

We thank Chisholm Catholic College and Learning Enhancement Department for sponsoring the team at the State Finals.
